What does the joining screen check before the interview?
Before you start you see a joining screen with your camera preview, switches for camera and microphone, a live microphone meter, a connection reading and the interview length. The Accept and continue button only works once both devices are on.
Work through the joining screen
- Read the facts row
It shows About 15 minutes, how many screening questions the hirer added, and your connection.
- Turn on the camera
Switch on Enable camera. Your browser asks for permission the first time.
- Check the camera can see you
A line under the switch reads We can see you clearly when you are in frame.
It may instead say We cannot see you in frame, More than one person in frame or Please face the camera.
- Turn on the microphone
Switch on Enable microphone, then speak.
- Watch the meter
The hint changes from Say something to test your microphone to Microphone is picking you up when sound is reaching it.
- Pick the right device
If you have more than one camera or microphone, a dropdown appears next to the switch.
- Start
Press Accept and continue. The screen goes full screen and setup begins.
What the connection line means

If something goes wrong
"Enable camera and microphone to continue"
WhyOne of the two switches is still off, or the browser refused access.
FixTurn both switches on. If a switch flips back off by itself, see Camera or microphone is blocked.
The meter stays flat while you talk
WhyThe wrong microphone is selected, or the device is muted at the system level.
FixPick another microphone from the dropdown, unmute your headset, and speak closer to the mic.
