Quick answers
How do I calculate in hand salary from CTC?
Take your annual CTC, subtract the employer costs that never reach your bank account (employer PF, gratuity provision, employer ESI, bonus paid separately) to get gross salary, then subtract your own PF, ESI, professional tax and income tax. Divide by 12 for the monthly figure. The calculator above does exactly this and shows each line.
What is the in hand salary for 10 LPA in FY 2026-27?
With a 40% basic, PF on full basic, gratuity inside the CTC, Karnataka professional tax and the new tax regime, a 10 LPA CTC gives about ₹73,531 a month in hand. The exact figure moves with your basic percentage, state and whether your employer caps PF at the wage ceiling.
What percentage of CTC is in hand salary?
For most salaried people on the new regime it lands between 75% and 88% of CTC: close to 88% at 5 LPA where there is no income tax, around 88% at 10 LPA, and about 75% at 30 LPA as the 30% slab bites.
Monthly in-hand salary
88.5% of your CTC reaches your bank after PF, professional tax and income tax.

| Gross salary | ₹77,731 |
|---|---|
| Income tax | - ₹0 |
| Your PF | - ₹4,000 |
| Professional tax | - ₹0 |
| In hand | ₹73,731 |

How this salary calculator works
This free online salary calculator for India turns your annual CTC into the monthly in hand salary you will actually receive. It deducts your PF, ESI, professional tax for your state and income tax under the new or old regime, and shows every line of the breakdown, month by month, so you can match it to your offer letter or payslip.
Reviewed by the Goodspace Careers team, updated October 2026. Rules checked against EPFO, ESIC, the Income-tax Act, 2025 and state professional tax schedules; sources are linked beside each rule below.
CTC is what you cost the company for a year. In hand salary is what reaches your bank account each month. The gap is made of two kinds of money: employer costs that are counted in CTC but never paid to you, and deductions taken out of your own gross salary.
Gross salary = CTC minus employer PF, gratuity provision, employer ESI and bonusIn hand salary = gross salary minus your PF, your ESI, professional tax and income tax (TDS)Monthly in hand= a regular month's payslip: monthly gross minus your PF, ESI, professional tax and the TDS on fixed pay (the bonus and its extra tax land in the bonus month)What each input means:
- Annual CTC: the total package in your offer letter, including employer PF and gratuity if they are listed.
- Basic salary: usually 40 to 50% of CTC. PF, gratuity and HRA are all computed on it, so a higher basic means more PF and a slightly lower in hand figure.
- HRA: house rent allowance, usually 50% of basic in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai and 40% elsewhere. It only lowers your tax under the old regime, and only if you pay rent.
- Provident fund: you contribute 12% of basic and your employer matches it. Employers may limit both shares to the statutory wage ceiling of Rs 25,000 a month (Rs 3,000 each), so check your payslip and pick the matching option.
- Gratuity: many employers include a 4.81% of basic provision in CTC. It is paid only when you leave after five years, so it is removed from monthly salary here. The gratuity calculator shows what it adds up to.
- Bonus or variable pay: taxable, but paid separately, so it is shown in the annual figure and kept out of the monthly one.
- State: sets professional tax, which is nil in some states and up to Rs 2,500 a year in others.
- Tax regime: the new regime is the default for FY 2026-27. Switch to the old regime and enter rent and investments to see if it pays more.
- ESI: applies only when gross salary is Rs 21,000 a month or less; the calculator applies it automatically when it fits.
How to calculate salary from CTC: 10 LPA worked example
The tool above is a CTC to in hand calculator for any package; this is the arithmetic it runs. Assume a Rs 10,00,000 CTC in Bengaluru, basic at 40%, HRA at 50% of basic, PF on full basic, gratuity inside the CTC, no bonus and the new tax regime. This is how the money splits:
| Line | Monthly | Annual |
|---|---|---|
| Basic salary (40% of CTC) | ₹33,333 | ₹4,00,000 |
| HRA (50% of basic) | ₹16,667 | ₹2,00,000 |
| Special allowance (balance of CTC) | ₹27,731 | ₹3,32,769 |
| Gross salary | ₹77,731 | ₹9,32,769 |
| Employer PF, inside CTC (12% of basic) | ₹4,000 | ₹48,000 |
| Gratuity provision, inside CTC (4.81% of basic) | ₹1,603 | ₹19,231 |
| Your PF (12% of basic) | - ₹4,000 | - ₹48,000 |
| Professional tax (Karnataka, Rs 300 in February) | - ₹200 | - ₹2,500 |
| Income tax, new regime | - ₹0 | - ₹0 |
| In hand salary | ₹73,531 | ₹8,82,269 |
Income tax is low here because taxable income is gross salary ₹9,32,769 less the Rs 75,000 standard deduction, which is ₹8,57,769, and the rebate for resident individuals wipes out tax on income up to Rs 12,00,000. Under the old regime with Rs 15,000 monthly rent and Rs 50,000 of extra 80C investments, the same person would take home ₹69,981 a month, so the new regime wins at this salary.

New regime or old regime: which gives more in hand?
The new regime is the default for FY 2026-27. It has lower slab rates, a Rs 75,000 standard deduction and a rebate that makes taxable income up to Rs 12,00,000 tax-free, but it allows no HRA exemption, no section 80C and no home loan interest deduction.
The old regime keeps those deductions with higher slab rates (5% from Rs 2,50,001, 20% from Rs 5,00,001, 30% above Rs 10,00,000). It pays more in hand only when your deductions are large: typically high rent in a metro, the full Rs 1,50,000 under 80C, health insurance and a home loan together. Up to about Rs 12 lakh of gross salary the new regime almost always wins because the rebate removes the tax entirely.
You choose the regime when you submit your tax declaration to payroll at the start of the year, and salaried employees can switch again next year. Try both in the calculator with your real rent and investments before you decide.
CTC vs gross salary vs in hand salary: what is the difference?
CTC (cost to company) is everything the employer spends on you in a year: salary, employer PF, gratuity provision, bonus, insurance premiums and sometimes perks. It is the number in the offer letter, and the one that is never paid as such.
Gross salary is the part payable to you before deductions: basic, HRA and allowances. In hand salary, also called take home or net salary, is what is left after your own deductions. The order is always CTC, then gross, then in hand, and each step down is smaller.
Basic salary calculator: what percentage of CTC should basic be?
Most Indian employers set basic at 40 to 50% of CTC. A higher basic raises PF and gratuity (good for retirement savings, lower in hand today); a lower basic does the opposite. Change the basic percentage in the calculator to see the effect on your own package.
The Labour Codes, in force from 21 November 2025, define wages so that if the excluded allowances exceed 50% of total remuneration, the excess is added back to wages for PF and gratuity. That pushes employers toward a basic of 40 to 50% rather than the 25 or 30% some offers used to carry.
Does gratuity in CTC reduce in hand salary?
Yes, by the amount of the provision, usually 4.81% of basic. The money is not deducted from your salary; it is simply part of the CTC that is set aside and paid as a lump sum when you leave after five years of continuous service. If you leave earlier (other than on death or disablement) it is not paid, so for a short stint it is a cost to you. Estimate the payout with the gratuity calculator.
Why is my salary credit lower than the calculator shows?
- PF on a bigger base: some employers deduct 12% on basic plus dearness allowance, or you opted for voluntary PF.
- Optional deductions: NPS, group medical insurance top-ups, meal cards and company transport are often carved out of CTC and deducted monthly.
- TDS timing: payroll estimates tax on the full year; if you have not submitted rent receipts or investment proofs, the deduction is higher until you do. Compare month by month with the 12 months view above, and line by line with a payslip.
- Variable pay held back: performance bonus, joining bonus and retention bonus sit in CTC but are paid later, often with conditions.
- Notice period or loan recoveries: a shortfall from a previous employer, a salary advance or a company loan is recovered from salary. See how notice period recoveries work.
