Why can't I edit my cover letter after downloading it?
Downloading finalises the letter. A banner reads Cover Letter Finalized and the fields become read only. You can still download it again, and you can generate a new letter to make changes.
Once a letter has been downloaded it is treated as finished. The editor shows Cover Letter Finalized, with the line: this cover letter has been downloaded and is now in read-only mode. You can download it again anytime, but editing is disabled.

- Yes, the PDF can be built again from the same letter.
- Copying
- Yes, once the letter is unlocked.
- Editing
- No. The fields and the style bar are switched off.
If you need a change
- Check the PDF first
Open the file you downloaded. Many small worries turn out to be fine in the finished page.
- Generate a new letter
Go to Cover Letter and create one for the same job, with the wording you want.
- Unlock the new one
Downloading the new letter spends another credit, or is covered by Gold.
Related questions
"This cover letter has been downloaded and cannot be edited. Please create a new cover letter."
That message is the same rule seen from the save side. Generate a new letter for further edits.
Does the resume builder work the same way?
No. A downloaded resume can still be edited, within a limit on how many times it can be downloaded. See editing after downloading.
