Building my resume failed or got stuck
Reading a resume can take up to about two minutes. If it fails, the page sends you back to the builder with a message. Trying again with a simpler PDF, or building from scratch, usually works.
What should happen
- From scratch
- The editor opens almost at once, with empty sections to fill in.
- From an upload
- A progress screen reads your file, then the editor opens with your details in place.
- How long
- Usually well under a minute. It gives up after about two minutes.
- Cost
- Nothing. A failed build charges you nothing, because payment only happens at download.
What the messages mean
"Resume processing is taking longer than expected. Please try again."
WhyReading the file did not finish within the time allowed.
FixTry again with a simpler single column PDF, or use Build from scratch and paste your content in.
"Failed to process your resume. Please try again."
WhyThe parsed content could not be turned into a document.
FixRe-save the file as PDF and upload the new copy.
"Failed to create resume. Please try again."
WhyThe new document could not be created.
FixReload the builder and start again. Check your connection first.
"That resume is no longer available. Starting a new one."
WhyThe draft you were sent to does not exist on your account.
FixLook in Recent Work in premium tools for the version you meant to open.
The editor sits on "Loading resume..."
WhyThe document did not load.
FixReload the page. If it repeats, open the resume again from Recent Work.
I was signed out mid way through setup
WhyReloading or going back during the new account questions restarts the sign up.
FixSign in again and complete the questions in one go without leaving the page.
