Lead Robotics Engineer
Multiplex EV, Bengaluru
About the Role
We're hiring a Lead Robotics Engineer to own the technical direction of our robotic systems, from architecture through field deployment, and to lead a team of engineers across software, controls and hardware integration.
Key Responsibilities
- Define the system architecture for perception, planning, controls and hardware interfaces
- Make build-vs-buy and technology-stack decisions (ROS 2, simulation tools, compute platforms)
- Set engineering standards for code quality, testing, safety and documentation
- Review designs and code; be the final technical escalation point
- Develop and optimise core modules in motion planning, controls, localisation or manipulation
- Lead sensor integration and calibration (LiDAR, cameras, IMU, encoders, force/torque)
- Build simulation and hardware-in-the-loop test pipelines to cut field debugging time
- Diagnose complex failures across software, electronics and mechanics
- Hire, mentor and grow a team of robotics engineers
- Plan roadmaps and sprints with product, hardware and operations teams
- Own delivery from prototype to production and field deployment
- Drive compliance with relevant safety standards: ISO 3691-4 (indoor AMRs), ISO 18497 (agricultural machines), ISO 17757 (construction and mining machines) and ISO 13849 (safety-related control systems)
Requirements
- B.Tech/B.E., M.S. or Ph.D. in Robotics, Mechanical, Electrical, Computer Science or a related field
- 6–8 years building robotic systems, with at least one product shipped to real users or customers
- 2+ years leading engineers, formally or as tech lead
- Strong C++ (modern C++14/17) and Python, with deep experience in ROS 2, Linux and real-time systems
- Hands-on autonomous navigation for wheeled or tracked vehicles: localisation, path planning and path following for skid-steer and Ackermann platforms
- Multi-sensor fusion across LiDAR, radar, cameras, IMU, wheel odometry and RTK-GNSS
- Robust localisation where GNSS is weak or missing: warehouses, vineyard rows under canopy, underground or open-pit mines
- Navigation on uneven terrain: traversability mapping, slope handling, and obstacle and person detection in cluttered outdoor scenes
- Experience with ROS 2 navigation stacks (Nav2, Autoware or similar) and simulation tools such as Gazebo or Isaac Sim
- Track record of debugging integrated hardware-software systems in the field
Preferred Qualifications
- Converting existing machines to autonomy: drive-by-wire integration and vehicle buses such as CAN, J1939 or ISOBUS
- Ruggedising sensors and compute against dust, mud, rain, vibration and heat (enclosures, sensor cleaning, IP ratings)
- Vineyard or orchard row-following, or autonomy for haul and earth-moving machines at construction and mining sites
- Fleet management, teleoperation fallback and connectivity over 4G/5G or private LTE
- Perception and ML for outdoor autonomy, with edge deployment on NVIDIA Jetson or similar
- Running field-test programmes at real customer sites
Location & Work Mode
On-site at the company premises.
