About the Company Octonus is opening a new office in Surat, India, and is looking for an Application & Business Development Engineer. The role combines hands-on technical testing with client-facing business development: you will test prototype (pre-production) diamond scanners on clients' stones, identify and reach out to potential customers who could benefit from the technology, and act as the link between clients and our development team — relaying test results and client requirements back to R&D. About the Role The Application & Business Development Engineer will test and demonstrate prototype quality control scanners on clients' melee diamonds, prepare objective test reports with calculations of measurement accuracy and repeatability, identify and engage potential clients who could be interested in the scanning technology, and act as the link between clients and the development team — relay test results, feedback, and client requests to R&D. Key Responsibilities Test and demonstrate prototype quality control scanners on clients' melee diamonds. Prepare objective test reports with calculations of measurement accuracy and repeatability. Identify and engage potential clients who could be interested in the scanning technology; discover and document their requirements. Act as the link between clients and the development team — relay test results, feedback, and client requests to R&D. Requirements Bachelor's Degree in Engineering / Technical Field. Understanding of the difference between accuracy, resolution, and repeatability of measurements. Ability to conduct objective tests and prepare test reports with calculations of accuracy and repeatability. Good command of English and Gujarati. Strong communication skills and the ability to work with clients: build rapport, identify needs, and clearly document requests in writing. An interest in business development and finding new clients will be an advantage. Initiative in delivering results: given a task defined in terms of 'why' and 'what', the candidate independently works out 'how' to solve it and takes initiative in finding the way. Proactively reports problems as they arise, without waiting to be asked for a status update. Team player: able to collaborate constructively with developers and colleagues, share information, and solve tasks together. Experience with melee diamonds is not required but will be an advantage. 3+ years of client-facing experience. Very comfortable – Have independently generated leads and acquired clients. Able to communicate with researchers who are located in different countries. Able to connect with Diamond manufacturers who are less technically skilled. Able to communicate with Diamond manufacturers in either Gujarati or Hindi Location & Work Mode Surat, Gujarat, India. Onsite role. Additional Requirements Must have experience in a related technical industry. Must have advanced practical understanding of measurement accuracy, resolution, and repeatability. Must have experience in conducting technical tests and preparing reports based on measurement data. Must have very good English and Gujarati communication skills. Must have experience in identifying potential customers and initiating business development conversations. Must have application engineering background. Must have ability to act as a bridge between customers' requirements and relay them to the research team. Must have ability to negotiate with Customers and help them sign an MOU detailing the features in the system that will make them buy the product.
