About the Company Battery Smart is looking to enhance its Telemetry/IoT program by hiring a Firmware Engineering Specialist/Technical Product Manager - Firmware. This role is crucial for building in-house ownership of telematics, IoT hardware, and vehicle-tracking systems. About the Role The Firmware Engineering Specialist will be the embedded-systems and firmware anchor within the Telemetry/New Product Development team. This role is intended to close the technical gap in firmware, hardware debugging, and IoT device integration. Key Responsibilities Independently design, develop, debug, and maintain firmware for IoT/telematics devices. Diagnose and resolve hardware-level issues in the field and in collaboration with hardware vendors. Own end-to-end IoT device integration. Design and build custom CAN bus protocol implementations. Reduce dependency on external telematics vendors. Work closely with the Telemetry team to translate product and operational requirements into robust firmware solutions. Debug field issues on live deployed devices. Set up practical testing, QA, and monitoring processes for firmware releases. Document firmware architecture, integration protocols, and troubleshooting playbooks. Partner with senior stakeholders on the broader roadmap for smart-station integrations and future B2B telematics offerings. Mentor and upskill existing team members on embedded systems and firmware fundamentals. Requirements 5–10+ years of hands-on firmware/embedded-systems experience. Proven experience with IoT hardware and telematics systems. -Hardware-Firmware Integration is a must. Strong command of embedded C/C++ and microcontroller programming. Demonstrated ability to independently debug hardware-firmware interaction issues. Working knowledge of GPS/GSM/GPRS modules, CAN bus, MQTT, and other IoT communication protocols. Hands-on knowledge of Battery Management System (BMS) firmware. Experience with OTA firmware updates, device provisioning, and fleet-scale device management. Preferred Qualifications Prior experience evaluating or replacing third-party telematics/IoT vendors with in-house solutions. Exposure to vehicle tracking, asset-recovery, or anti-pilferage systems. Familiarity with cloud-side telemetry pipelines. Prior leadership or mentorship experience. An entrepreneurial, problem-first mindset.
